10 Best Meals of 2014

Our favorite dining experiences from restaurants across Rhode Island

Posted

It's no secret that Rhode Island and its neighbor states are home to an impressive selection of incredible eateries (thanks JWU!). This year, we tasted so many mouth-watering treats that choosing our favorite dining experience was tricky... but choose we did, and (hopefully) your taste buds will be all the more happy because of it.

10. Ten Cousins Brick Oven (Westport, MA)
"The Meatball Brickini ($8.50) contained sliced jumbo meatballs and mozzarella in fresh, soft homemade bread. I’m a huge fan of meatball sandwiches, and while these meatballs were great, this is the only version I can think of that will have me going back for the bread." Read the review...

9. Bocado (Providence)

"Traditionally, tapas are bar snacks to accompany drinks. In this sense, Bocado isn’t quite traditional, but the restaurant’s spaciousness and broad menu turn the tapas experience into a satisfying dinner." Read the review...

8. Dante's Kitchen (East Greenwich)
"
There are plenty of pizza places, Chinese restaurants, burger pubs and seafood spots (in South County), but if you’re looking for fried chicken, biscuits and gravy, grits, jambalaya or barbecue, you’re generally out of luck. Dante’s Kitchen on Main Street in East Greenwich hopes to change that by bringing you a taste of the South." Read the review...

7. 84 Tavern on the Canal (Westerly)
"
Westerly has seen some dining growth over the last few years and 84 Tavern on Canal is one of the reasons why. The restaurant has a great selection for everyone." Read the review...

6. Faust (Providence)

"Faust has eschewed overplayed stereotypes of busty beer girls to create a sophisticated German restaurant, something you’d be more likely to find in a young corner of Berlin than Epcot center." Read the review...

5. Table (Barrington)

"A pretty good rule of thumb is that the overall quality of a restaurant is inversely proportional to the size of its space and menu... Table, in downtown Barrington’s new Coastal Commons mixed-use complex, could be one of those places." Read the review...

4. Enoteca Umberto (Providence)

"
Someone recently asked me if there are any undiscovered pearls in Providence’s restaurant scene. You’d never guess there could be one hidden in plain sight on Atwells." Read the review...

3. Celestial Cafe (Exeter)

"Ladies and gentlemen, the Celestial Café in Exeter is excellent. Everyone reading this should go, possibly even right this moment since the restaurant is open seven days a week. I’m not kidding – go now if you can." Read the review...

2. The Salted Slate (Providence)

"The portions were just right, the plating attractive but not fussy, every bite full of flavor and at the right temperature." Read the review...

1. Eli's Kitchen (Warren)
"Someone recently said to me that they dine out for the dining experience, not for nourishment. As a foodie, I initially thought this was absurd. Upon further reflection, I was shortsighted. Service is part of the experience, and service matters. So does the food. At Eli’s Kitchen, you don’t have to pick." Read the review...
