Drinking for a Bloody Good Cause

Posted

The New England Hemophilia Association and Rhode Island Food Fights is hosting their first ever Best Bloody Mary Competition at the Providence Arcade on May 20 from 11am until 2pm. Providence bars will create their own unique versions of this classic cocktail to compete to see who has the bloodiest Bloody Mary in town.

“The event was created to raise awareness about rare bleeding disorders that not many people know much about, all while having fun” says Executive Director Rich Pezzillo of the New England Hemophilia Association. Hemophilia is a rare blood condition that does not have a cure. Treatment for this condition requires regular IV infusions and can be costly. “Our goal is to raise $10,000 with this inaugural event. 100% of all funds raised will support our Emergency Assistance Program” Pezzillo stated. The Emergency Assistance Program helps patients struggling financially, to pay their expenses, whether they be housing, transportation, or bills.

So far, bars like The Black Sheep, The Grange, New Harvest, Rogue Island Kitchen and Bar, TROOP, The Salted Slate, and Wara Wara Restaurant have already put their names into the competition.

Tickets are $25 and include tokens to taste three-ounce pours and voting tokens, as well as free appetizers and discounts to downtown shops. Voting tokens will later be counted and the competitor with the most populous votes will be crowned “Providence’s Best Bloody Mary.”
