WOONSOCKET—Seeking a way to help the needy, Finest Real Estate and Property Management will sponsor the First Annual Christmas Eve Dinner to aid homeless and “working poor” families.
This event will take place at The Woonsocket Boys and Girls Club, 72 Kendrick Ave., from 4-7 p.m. Help the Homeless Rhode Island, an organization that serves patrons on Sundays and at several other times throughout the week, will also be there accommodating attendees.
Finest Real Estate and Property Management Broker/Owner Ilanna Ball said the idea came about after she realized there were no activities for people dealing with this situation.
“We found numerous places for people to receive meals either on Thanksgiving and/or Christmas, but not on Christmas Eve,” said Ball, who cites the donation of 100 meals from River Falls Restaurant and other various donations from area businesses for this drive. “Rhode Island has the highest number of people using food stamps in New England. Some people, such as the working poor, may receive food stamps, but with the Federal government cutbacks, these families and individuals may not have enough to put food on the table.
“It gets worse when families have to decide between either feeding their family or paying their bills,” Ball added. “We will have tons of food and to-go containers so people can feel free to take some leftovers with them.”
Besides the food, participants may have their pictures taken; children’s activities, giveaways and other surprises.
