Got Coffee Milk?

Posted

Since 1993, our beloved coffee milk has been the Ocean State’s official drink. Of course, that prestigious title wouldn’t be possible without the essential ingredient: coffee syrup.

Coffee syrup first hit the markets in the early twentieth century, believed to be a result of an influx of European immigrants with a love for sweetened coffee. The two trademark producers we know and love today, Warwick’s Eclipse and Lincoln’s Autocrat, remain popular, but other syrup makers have cropped up in the market.

Dave’s All-Natural Coffee Syrup hails from Narragansett and tweaks the classic with flavors like Vanilla and Mocha. Morning Glory’s Old-Fashioned Coffee Syrup was born in Westport, Massachusetts, and can be found across Rhode Island and neighboring New England states.

If you’re looking to elevate your coffee milk, try creative twists like Narragansett Beer’s Autocrat Coffee Milk Stout or Cook & Brown Public House’s Coffee Milk Cocktail. And of course, there’s the tried and true coffee cabinet – or a “milkshake” to your out-of-state friends.
