More about the Featured Artists for March:
Lisa Elliot - Fiber Artist, Hand woven Scarves
Lisa Elliott received her BFA degree in Graphic Design from the Rhode Island School of Design and later completed four additional semesters in weaving at UMass Dartmouth - College of Visual and Performing Arts. After several years of weaving on her four-harness loom (most recently working on rag rugs), she discovered the joy of creating shawls and other wearables on a rigid heddle loom. The simplicity of plain weave puts the emphasis on color interactions.Finger-controlled techniques and use of a pick-up stick can add subtle or dramatic details. She
lives in Fairhaven MA, where she and her husband, painter Willoughby Elliott, raised their four sons.
Martin Bierer - Photographer
Martin Bierer (rhymes with beer) worked in accounting over a decade before going back to school and getting a fine art degree. Another decade has passed and Martin’s work has been exhibited in galleries and shows throughout New England.
Robert Lavoie - painter
Robert Lavoie grew up in Swansea and parlayed his talent as a gifted illustrator to become an Art Director of Entertainment & Licensing at Pawtucket-based Hasbro. While being surrounded by Transformers and Mr. Potato Head all day is invigorating, Lavoie exercises his more artistic side by painting stunning milieus with a lesser-known medium called gouache, a thick, opaque Italian watercolor.
Owen Sheff - Design and Builds Luxury Lathed Pens
Owen Sheff, of Sheff's Woodwork, creates finely crafted pens in a range of styles, patterns, and materials. The two styles, comfort and slim, offer a nice variety of weight and feeling to ensure a perfect fit with any hand. The metal fittings coupled with the wood body give Sheff's work a traditional yet modern aesthetic that will complement any design sensibilities. In the age of keyboards and touch screens it is important that handwriting be enjoyable and comfortable, and Sheff's pens are just that.
