PVD Goes Country for One Night Only

Aubrie Sellers brings her “garage country” sound to the Dunkin’ Donuts Center on Thursday, February 2 as she opens for Miranda Lambert’s Highway Vagabond Tour. The tour opened on January 26, and after a weekend on the road, Aubrie is just getting warmed up. “These venues are bigger than anything I’ve ever played, and it’s been a great match [with Miranda] musically," Aubrie says. "I really respect Miranda as an artist. I love her music, and she’s just a fun, nice person. The first weekend was great, and I can only imagine it’s going to get better.”

Aubrie, daughter of country singer Lee Ann Womack and singer/songwriter Jason Sellers, gives credit to her country roots as she branches out with her own unique sounds. “I grew up on traditional country and bluegrass, and as part of the internet generation, I’ve been able to discover tons of music that was at my fingertips," she says. "When it came time to make my own music, I just started writing and all of those different influences came out, from George Jones to Ralph Stanley, and Ricky Skaggs to Dwight Yokum and Steve Earle, Led Zeppelin, and even Robert Johnson and some blues.”

Beyond songwriting, Aubrie has also found a love for production: “Part of my songwriting process is thinking about how I want it to sound. I think that’s the most exciting part musically for me. Production has a lot to do with why my music sounds different. My voice is pretty country and my songs are pretty country, but the production value is a little different.”

Aubrie isn’t surprised by the growing number of country fans in New England. “[That’s what] I’ve discovered over the last year," she says. "I’ve played on the West Coast, and there’s a huge country music scene out there. It seems like it’s everywhere. It’s kind of like the American genre now.” It’s going to be a busy winter for Aubrie. She will tour with Miranda Lambert through mid-March, spending off weekends on tour with Cadillac Three, a Nashville rock group. See Aubrie February 2 at The Dunk and February 4 at Mohegan Sun Arena as part of the Highway Vagabond tour.
