Take the Pledge to Eat Local

One group is challenging neighbors to eat local one day each week throughout September

Posted

Can you pledge to eat local one day each week in September? That’s what the folks of the Savor South County: Eat Local Challenge are daring residents of South County to do. In an effort to get everyone on board, Savor South County will be providing information on farmer’s market events throughout South County as well as restaurants that provide locally sourced meals. This information can be found on the team’s Facebook Group page.

This initiative was started by the 2015 members of Leadership Rhode Island. Each class has a project, and theirs was to survey residents across RI to identify common concerns among neighbors.  In South County, the survey response included the desire to be connected, protect the environment and maintain the community character. The 2016 Leadership RI class picked up where the 2015 class left off, and started Savor South County. “We believe our team project promotes all of these priorities – and more,” says one of the founding members Katie McDonald.  “South County residents choose South County as their home for the abundance of natural beauty, recreation, food and community. Savor South County: Eat Local brings all these elements together, crossing over town lines and in unison, celebrating the bounty of South County. We envision neighbors gathering at the farmer’s markets and virtually, on Facebook, to exchange recipes, photos, resources and tales of local foodie adventures.” Find them on Facebook for more information
