Winter Produce Is Coming

Indoor farmers markets in Pawtucket, Bristol, Newport and more will keep you eating with the season

One of the summer’s greatest pleasures is straight-from-the-farm produce, preferably purchased from one of the dozens of weekly farmers markets around the state. That pleasure, though, doesn’t have to end just because the weather is colder. Indoor farmers’ markets kick into gear this month, selling everything from late harvest vegetables like winter squash and apples to freshly baked treats, locally made condiments and fresh meat and seafood. There are four around the state that happen on Saturday mornings: The Mount Hope Farmers Market in Bristol; the Pawtucket Wintertime Farmers Market at Hope Artiste Village; the Coastal Growers Farmers Market at Lafayette Mill in North Kingstown; and the Aquidneck Growers Market at Newport Vineyards in Middletown. Additional markets happen on other days in Providence, Peace Dale, Woonsocket and Warren. Farm Fresh RI is the hub to find out more, not just about farmers markets, but about food makers around the state. So yeah, summer is over, but deliciousness is not. Just don’t try to sunbathe after you shop.
