The Artists’ Exchange, a cherished arts hub on Rolfe Square, celebrates its milestone 20-year anniversary with a stunning retrospective show. Kicking off with an opening reception on September 19 from 5-7pm, this exhibit runs through November 29 and features works from over 50 talented artists who have contributed to the studio's vibrant history.

Shannon Casey, the dedicated director of Artists’ Exchange who has been part of the organization for 17 years, curated this impressive showcase alongside the teaching staff. “The work in this show features a wide range of mediums, both 2D and 3D, from classes, exhibitions, and programs that truly depict our accomplishments over the last 20 years,” Casey explains. “It wasn’t easy deciding what to display, but it was certainly fun to take a trip down memory lane.”

The Artists’ Exchange employs a unique model that integrates individuals with developmental disabilities into all of its classes, programs, and community events. As a subsidiary of the non-profit service provider Gateways to Change, Inc., the organization aims to create an inclusive atmosphere where creativity, learning, and discovery converge, and individuality is celebrated. Professional artists and educators tailor lessons to accommodate every type of learner, ensuring everyone has the chance to develop their artistic potential.

Since opening in 2004, Artists’ Exchange has become a cornerstone of the Rolfe Square community, bringing together students and community members to make art, develop passions, and explore their creativity. The organization offers a wide range of visual and performing arts programs for the entire community, including children and adults with developmental disabilities, families from low- to moderate-income households, senior citizens, and anyone with an interest in art.

Vanessa Rundlett, an instructor and one of the show organizers, highlights the community spirit that keeps Artists’ Exchange thriving. “As a cornerstone of the Rolfe Square community for 20 years, we are only as strong as the effort we put in, and it’s our community that helps us endure and evolve without compromising our values,” Rundlett says. “Continuously working with others helps us see from a new perspective, evolve, and create natural friendships that last a lifetime.” For more information, visit Artists-Exchange.org
