Ocean House
No matter what time of year, the elegant Ocean House in Watch Hill is a destination worth a visit. The stunning oceanfront property, rebuilt to recreate the original 1868 design, is an envy-inducing summer vacation spot, but the views (and the food) are just as delicious 365 days a year.
Seasons is the Ocean House’s five star fine dining restaurant, with an open kitchen, expansive ocean views and locavore, farm-to-table cuisine. The menu changes every week to reflect the best of the season in New England. Find selections like Roast Lobster with spicy sesame rice, Smoked Georges Bank Cod or Parsnip Tortelloni with a Grey Sail IPA emulsion. Seasons also offers its legendary Jazz Brunch every Sunday, with live music and endless mimosas, and live music on weekend evenings. The Bistro is a more casual dining area, offering upscale comfort food (like Smoked Pheasant Pot Pie and Bacon Wrapped Pork Tenderloin) in a cozy library atmosphere.
During warm afternoons, The Verandah Raw Bar is a casual place to have a Lobster Roll with tarragon and lemon creme fraiche dressing, and an Ocean House Colada with coconut vodka, coconut water, lemon and mint. The outdoor Seaside Terrace serves breakfast and lunch in season, with light, healthy options like salads and wraps.
But, there are lots of other ways to get a taste of the Ocean House. On summer weekends, the property hosts family-friendly Lobster Boils on their private beach. Throughout the year, there are weekly Wine and Culinary Arts activites, cooking classes and immersive weekends with the Ocean House’s food forager, chefs and wine experts. The monthly Farm + Vine Dinner Series brings in a chef from a local restaurant, along with local wineries, for unique dining experiences.
Weekapaug Inn
Lovingly restored to its original 19th century charm in 2012, the Weekapaug Inn is tucked away on Quonochontaug Pond in Westerly. The casual yet luxurious hotel has four dining locations for visitors and guests alike, united by a gourmand New England farm-to-table sensibility.
The Restaurant Serves breakfast, lunch, dinner and Sunday roast lunch. Expect meals prepared from local foraging, produce from nearby farms and seafood fresh from the ocean, with menus that change seasonally to reflect the best flavors and quality. To start, try Rhode Island Beets, poached and pickled, served with caramelized fennel, roasted carrots and charred onion; or Pork and Clams, which is braised and grilled pork served with Rhode Island littlenecks and a roasted sweet pepper-achiote sauce. For your entree, try the Atlantic Cod with a mushroom duxelle and beluga lentils, Crescent Farms Duck with a guajillo chili jus, or Roasted Misty Knolls Chicken served with herbs de provence and a ragout of Maine beans. Personalized wine pairings are available with each meal.
Enjoy a snack and a cocktail al fresco on The Lawn. Take in gorgeous views of the pond while you enjoy Street Tacos or a New England Lobster Roll. Sip on a Sunset on the Lawn with Barr Hill Gin, chamomile, sage and candied lemon. The SeaRoom is a seasonal dining destination for casual lunch and dinner, serving light options like salads and sandwiches. After dinner, make sure you stay for S’mores at their waterfront Adirondack chairs and fire pit.
Dress: Resort casual for breakfast and lunch at both properties. For dinner, no t-shirts, flip flops or shorts are allowed. At the Ocean House, jackets are preferred but not required.
