Grab your blanket, snag some snacks, and claim your spot—downtown movie nights are back.
For the first time since 2019, InDowncity is bringing back Movies on the Block, the beloved outdoor film series that transforms Grant’s Block into a starlit open-air cinema.

Starting June 26 and running monthly through September, the 2025 lineup delivers a nostalgic mix of quirky cult favorites and iconic classics. On the big screen: Waiting for Guffman (June 26), Mermaids (July 24), Clue (August 28), and The Wizard of Oz (September 25). All films are free and start at dusk at the corner of Westminster and Union streets, right in the heart of downtown Providence.

Originally launched in 2008, Movies on the Block became the city’s first outdoor film series – and its return feels legendary. “We couldn’t be more excited to bring back this cornerstone event for the downtown Providence community,” says Joanna Levitt, Director of Commercial at Cornish Associates. “2019 was the last time we hosted Movies on the Block, and since then, we’ve had countless requests asking when the series would return.”

While the films steal the spotlight, the 2025 reboot comes with a tasty twist: a curated to-go food program from downtown’s favorite eateries. Participating restaurants will serve up special concessions perfect for movie munching, with details coming soon to the official Movies on the Block website.

No tickets? No problem. This community celebration is totally free and open to all. Just bring a beach chair, a blanket, and your love for great movies and good vibes. “We’re thrilled to announce the 2025 season and can’t wait to welcome everyone back to the newly renovated Grant’s Block,” adds Levitt.
