THE LAST WALTZ

Posted by GreenwichOdeum

A screening of The Last Waltz in memory of former Odeum Board Member Ken Shane.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to St. Jude's Children Research Hospital.

It started as a concert. It became a celebration. Join an unparalleled lineup of rock superstars as they celebrate The Band’s historic 1976 Thanksgiving Day farewell performance. Directed by Martin Scorsese, “The Last Waltz” is not only “the most beautiful rock film ever made” (The New Yorker)…it’s “one of the most important cultural events of the last two decades” (Rolling Stone)! Featuring Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Neil Young, Ringo Starr, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, Muddy Waters and more.

Former Odeum Board Member Ken Shane suggested that the Odeum screen The Last Waltz several years back, and in November 2017, we did just that. Ken wanted to pay tribute to the documentary (in which a turkey dinner is fed to the entire audience), but knowing that a turkey dinner at the Odeum might be a bit of a stretch, Ken instead opted to offer cider donuts to each attendee.

Ken also the proposed what would later become Odeum OnStage, where fans would sit onstage with the artist in a very intimate setting. Artists including Richard Barone, Bill Janovitz, and Sophie B. Hawkins each performed feet away from their fans, creating a very unique concert experience.

As a tribute to Ken, we offer the film he cared so much about, and hope you enjoy it as much as he did.

Love music.
