The Rhody Drive-In Movie Craze

Spend your nights social distancing with movies and concerts from your car


The retro summer evening outing of watching a movie from your car is the new social distancing craze all over RI. Classic spots from summers past have reopened this season to carry on the tradition, while other organizations have created drive-in spots in their own backyards to make sure movie lovers can still come together while staying apart.

East Bay

The Drive-In at Cutler Mills is The Collaborative’s newest installation. Be sure to make a reservation and bring your own snacks before driving over to the lot on 30 Cutler Street. On Wednesdays classic films (cult and otherwise) are screened, and Fridays watch favorites from the ‘80s and ‘90s. 

newportFILM Outdoors continues to bring free drive-in documentary film screenings to Aquidneck Island through October while continuing their virtual streaming program. Films, both drive-ins and virtual, will be released on a rolling basis so follow along on social media to stay up to date on our events and offerings.

Northern Rhode Island

Hearthside House in Lincoln is getting into the outdoor movie scene. This historic homestead will show classic films July 18, August 8 and 22. Tickets includes complimentary popcorn!

South County

The Misquamicut Drive-In in Westerly is a summertime classic, screening favorite films and even concerts to please the whole family, backdropped by the beach. Visit them on Facebook for a video covering their coronavirus rules and to view their schedule of showings. 

United Theatre is teaming up with The Knickerbocker to bring you concerts from your cars at the Misquamicut Drive-In. Their first screening kicked off recently with a Dave Matthews Band concert film, but stay tuned for more on their Facebook page!
