Traditional Irish Weaving

Posted by handson30cutler

Learn to weave- Irish style! In this class you will make a “crios” (belt, in Irish) using whatever yarn you want to bring to learn on! While your crios will not be nine feet long, and we will modify slightly from tradition by using a small wooden heddle, you will design and warp according to tradition–you’ll even learn some history! After that is well underway, we will pause and weave one or two of Ireland’s famous Brigid’s Crosses, using reeds gathered in RI.

Bring whatever leftover yarn you like, about one or two skeins worth- Ordinary acrylic worsted weight is perfect, but nearly anything will work. We will share yarn so as to have a variety of colors available. Here’s a chance to clean out that crochet basket! Even small amounts of yarn are useful!
