A soccer stadium may not be the first place that comes to mind for roasting s’mores with Santa nearby, but Pawtucket is about to make the case. Starting November 27, Centreville Bank Stadium will welcome visitors onto the field for the first Rhode Island Lights Festival, a new nighttime holiday experience running through January 3.
For once, the best view might not be from the seats. Visitors can wander across the stadium field through immersive light displays while synchronized shows light up the seating bowl around them. The festival will run nightly from 5-10 PM, with the exception of December 24 and 25.
The lights are only the beginning. A holiday marketplace will add shopping to the evening, while seasonal food and drinks, s’mores roasting, Santa visits, and family entertainment give visitors plenty of reasons to stick around. It’s the kind of outing that works for kids counting down to Christmas and adults looking for something a little different to do on a December night.
Those hoping to warm up between trips through the displays can reserve heated igloos, suites, and club hospitality spaces for holiday parties, office gatherings, and other celebrations.
The festival also gives Rhode Islanders a chance to see the stadium from a completely different angle. Centreville Bank Stadium opened as the home of Rhode Island FC, but this winter, families and holiday lights will take over the pitch while visitors get to wander where the action usually happens. Organizers plan to make the Rhode Island Lights Festival an annual tradition.. For ticket announcements, festival details, and updates, visit centrevillebankstadium.com.
