Charlestown Memorial Day Parade Returns Sunday, May 24

Annual event honors those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country

Flags will wave, marching bands will fill the air with patriotic songs, and generations will line Old Post Road when the annual Memorial Day Parade returns to Charlestown on Sunday, May 24, at 1pm. One of southern Rhode Island’s most cherished traditions, the event honors men and women who died serving in the United States Armed Forces while celebrating hometown pride and the power of community.

The event is expected to draw veterans groups, military organizations, scouts, civic clubs, antique vehicles, local officials, and first responders from across the region. Along the route, there will be special observances at Cross’ Mills Baptist Church and Cold Brook, and at the Charlestown Naval Airfield Memorial at Ninigret Park, immediately following the parade.

Organizers encourage attendees to arrive early due to limited parking and road closures near the parade route. In the event of inclement weather, updates are expected through local community channels and town announcements.

The parade serves as the unofficial start of summer in the seaside town, with upcoming events including the Charlestown Seafood Festival (Aug 7-9) and the Rhythm and Roots Festival (Sept. 4-6). Learn more at CharlestownMemorialDayParade.com.
