A perfect 50.0 beard score is already an unusual thing to bring home from Los Angeles. Add a half-pound moustache covered in faux black dahlias, blinking lights, Hollywood stars, and its own HOLLYWOOD sign, and the luggage gets considerably more interesting. Rhode Islanders Chuck Reeves and Jordon House each left the 2026 GABMC with a championship, earning the couple a new household title of their own. They’re calling it a “two-championship household.”
For Reeves, the win ended a run of close finishes.
“When I heard ‘perfect score,’ I was actually sure I was about to be the runner-up again,” he says. Instead, the 50.0 belonged to him, bringing what he describes as equal parts shock, awe, and relief after years of decisions and sacrifices tied to maintaining his beard.
There was another concern: House had already won. “It would have been a loooong and awkward flight home from Los Angeles if she had become a champion before me,” Reeves jokes.
House earned her title with an Old Hollywood-inspired craft moustache she spent about 20 hours building. Inspired partly by the Black Dahlia murder, the 16-to-17-inch piece incorporated more than 20 faux black dahlias, three strands of blinking lights, 10 stars representing the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and a miniature HOLLYWOOD sign. She supported the entire creation using her ear and septum piercings.
Then, on competition day, one of the nose hooks broke.
Improvisation comes with the territory. Reeves describes competitive, or “charitable,” bearding as “part male beauty pageant and half dog show,” complete with expert judging and dozens of categories. House found her opening through the Whiskerinas, where realistic and creative facial-hair pieces turn the competition into wearable art.
“It isn’t simply a bunch of guys lining up to see who grew the biggest beard,” she says.
The hobby fits easily into a household already prone to unconventional outings. Around Rhode Island, the pair might be at a PPAC musical, hunting Thomas Dambo trolll, or chasing whatever experience comes next. Reeves sums up his approach simply: “the human purpose is adventure.”
That philosophy takes them to Anchorage in November for their next championships. Reeves hopes to add a U.S. Nationals gold to his GABMC title, while House is keeping most of her next creation secret, aside from one clue: Lola Bunny and Space Jam. Winning in Los Angeles hasn’t made either of them particularly comfortable, either. Reeves sees the perfect score as proof that his approach is working, while House prefers to treat every new competition as a reset.
“In a way, we all start from scratch every time,” House says.
For now, the trophies have made it home to Rhode Island, officially establishing the couple’s “two-championship household.” But with Alaska already on the calendar and another elaborate moustache under construction, they don’t seem interested in treating Los Angeles as a finish line. Around their house, a championship is less of an ending than confirmation that the next strange idea is probably worth following.
