Move over, gingerbread houses, Providence is serving up something even sweeter this holiday season. On December 6, the newly revamped Grant’s Block Park will sparkle to life with the first-ever PVD Downcity Holiday Market, a festive playground for shoppers, foodies, and merrymakers alike. Spanning two weekends, this event transforms downtown into the ultimate hub of holiday cheer. “This is a chance for locals and visitors to soak in the magic of the season while discovering the vibrant charm of our city,” says Alexis Gorriarán, chair and commissioner of the Providence Tourism Council.
The market features a stellar lineup of local artisans and vendors, including Gather Glass, Sincerely Paws Co., and Black Leaf Tea. Food lovers can indulge in favorites like Jaju Pierogi and Anna’s Vesuviano Wood-Fired Pizza or sip seasonal drinks in a cozy pop-up lodge hosted by Durk’s Bar•B•Q.
For hands-on holiday fun, workshops bring the season to life with activities like wreath-making with The Greek Gardener or charcuterie crafting with Artisan Bites. Meanwhile, kids (and kids at heart) can enjoy free LEGO builds, face painting, and lawn games to keep the festivities in full swing.
Live performances from local talents like the Leland Baker Trio and Alexus Lee set the scene with warm, celebratory vibes. “The PVD Downcity Holiday Market celebrates the artisans, chefs, musicians, and small businesses that make Providence so special,” said Joanna Levitt of InDowncity.
The holiday magic doesn’t stop at Grant’s Block. From December 5-7, the annual Three Nights of Lights will illuminate downtown with dazzling displays and performances. Then, on December 31, ring in the New Year at the Illuminate PVD Fireworks Display in 195 District Park. For more details about this winter wonderland, visit InDowncity.com.
