Something delicious is sprouting in Middletown, and it starts right at the source. Newport Vineyards is raising the bar this spring with the debut of Farm & Barrel Bistro, a new dining experience that blends vineyard views, seasonal ingredients, and a playful take on modern American cuisine.
Opening May 8, the bistro invites guests to taste what happens when wine, beer, and farm-fresh fare come together with intention. Guided by the philosophy “what grows together, goes together,” the menu leans into ingredients harvested straight from the estate’s own farm and greenhouses, paired thoughtfully with house-crafted beverages.
That connection shows up the moment you sit down. The menu reads like a snapshot of Rhode Island’s growing season, with house-made pastas, just-landed local seafood, and bright crudo dishes that keep things light and fresh. There’s a comfort factor, too, with elevated takes on familiar favorites that pair easily with a glass of estate wine or a crisp, house-brewed beer. A new full-service cocktail program adds another layer, giving guests everything from classic pours to seasonal sips.
“From vine to glass and field to fork, this new experience brings everything together in a way that is both elevated and deeply rooted,” says owner John Nunes.
The experience is designed to flow with your day. Lunch leads into a relaxed “Sips & Snacks” window with curated cheeses and small bites, then transitions into dinner service. Sundays keep their beloved brunch, perfect for stretching out a weekend visit. Depending on when you go, you might land on the open-air Taproom Terrace or upstairs in the Overlook lounge, where vineyard views and a peek into the winemaking process set the tone.
In the kitchen, Kyle Johnson brings a thoughtful, ingredient-first approach shaped by both local roots and big-city experience. A Johnson & Wales University graduate, Johnson spent years in Boston honing his craft before returning home. His style leans into clean flavors and intuitive pairings, letting each ingredient shine while quietly elevating the whole plate.
Opening night adds a festive touch, with complimentary sparkling wine, an amuse-bouche, and live music from the Alexus Lee Trio in the Taproom. For more information or to make a reservation, visit farmandbarrelbistro.com.
