By mid-October, apples usually have a pretty secure hold on the farmers market table, but Tiverton Farmers Market is making room for something considerably more pungent. The annual Garlic & Apple Roast returns Sunday, October 18 from 10am-2pm, bringing more than 50 local and regional vendors inside the Tiverton Middle School Cafetorium for a fall market that leans hard into the savory side of the harvest.
Garlic gets considerably more range here than its usual supporting role at dinner, starting with Divine Dough Bakery’s roasted garlic Parmesan loaves, garlic rosemary focaccia, and savory garlic roll made with artisanal sourdough, while Crazy Uncle Red’s turns up the heat with Hotstreek, a spread made from fermented chiles, garlic, and sunflower seeds.
Anyone arriving around lunchtime has plenty of reasons to stay hungry, with La Gatta Salata Food Truck serving Italian sandwiches, focaccia, sides, and sauces alongside garlic-infused pasta and ravioli from Little Rhody Pasta. The menu shifts toward the Mediterranean with Salty Wine Bar and Tolia Anatolian Eats, whose offerings include hummus, muhammara, olives, and whipped feta.
Not everything is meant to disappear before the drive home, with Nettie’s Bees of Rochester, Massachusetts, bringing garlic honey for the pantry and New Bedford Pottery offering handmade garlic graters and keepers for anyone inspired to leave with a few extra bulbs.
Local musician Ric Allendorf will provide live music as shoppers make their rounds, adding a soundtrack to the bread sampling, lunch decisions, and inevitable debate over what deserves space in the market bag.
For anyone already making the usual October farmers market rounds, the Garlic & Apple Roast offers a decidedly more savory stop, with lunch built in and no need to gamble on the weather thanks to its indoor Tiverton Middle School location. Admission and parking are both free. For more information and vendor updates, visit TivertonFarmersMarket.com.
