Cranberry sauce may spend most of Thanksgiving waiting politely beside the turkey, but Tiverton is giving the tart little fruit considerably more room to work. Juice, chocolate, hot pepper jelly, dog biscuits, and fresh berries all make appearances when the Annual Cranberry-Craze Thanksgiving Specialty Farmers Market*returns November 22. More than 50 farmers, food makers, and artisans will fill Tiverton Middle School from 10am-2pm, making the indoor market a timely stop before Thanksgiving cooking begins in earnest.
The cranberry theme shows up across the market in plenty of forms. Among the seasonal offerings, Ocean State Juice blends cranberries with apple, orange, and lemon for a cold-pressed drink, while LaRose Chocolates works them into bonbons and mini loaves. Crazy Uncle Red’s takes things in a spicier direction with cranberry hot pepper jelly, and Pet Wants gets dogs involved with pumpkin-cranberry mini biscuits. The Neighborhood Farm keeps things traditional with fresh local cranberries for anyone still assembling the Thanksgiving table.
Beyond the cranberry creations, the market covers plenty of practical holiday ground. Shoppers can pick up vegetables, seafood, meats, baked goods, coffee, tea, and chocolates before moving on to alpaca wear, artwork, pottery, body care, and pet gifts from local and regional makers. It turns a grocery run into something closer to a leisurely lap through the holiday to-do list.
The Anderson-Gram Duo will provide live music while visitors browse and sample, adding a little soundtrack to the morning without pulling focus from the shopping. Admission is free, and only service animals are permitted inside.
For anyone heading into Thanksgiving week with a partially finished list, Tiverton offers four hours to handle the essentials, pick up a few gifts, and see just how many directions one cranberry can go. For more information, visit TivertonFarmersMarket.com.
