There’s something about making your own wedding bands that turns a symbol into a story. At RA HA Jewelry in Providence, owner Julia Sullivan invites couples into that experience, guiding them through a process where every thoughtful choice and hands-on moment becomes part of what the rings represent.
Sullivan designed the workshop to feel just as significant as the rings themselves. “I wanted to create a space where the process of making the rings felt as meaningful as wearing them,” she says. That intention comes from experience. After making her own wedding band, she found herself returning to it often. “It feels like an extension of myself.”
The three-hour private sessions meet couples exactly where they are, even if they’ve never picked up a tool. Sullivan walks them through proportions, weight, and design before each person carves a ring in wax. She keeps the pace steady and approachable. “The carving happens in a focused, one step at a time way, so it never feels overwhelming,” she says. Once complete, she oversees casting and finishing, returning the pieces as solid gold rings about a month later.
What stays with couples goes beyond the final product. “People are often surprised by how focused and calm the process is, and by how attached they feel to the rings afterward,” Sullivan says. Working on the same piece creates a different kind of connection. “It becomes a moment where you can sit down together, take a breath, and make something meaningful.”
Sullivan also offers small group workshops and private classes that bring the same philosophy to a wider audience. The experience reflects Providence itself. “There’s a respect for process here, for materials, for time, for learning by doing,” she says. The studio leans into that energy, favoring thoughtful craftsmanship over anything overly polished.
For couples stepping into their next chapter, RA HA Jewelry turns the moment into something you can hold onto long after the workshop ends. To learn more or book a session, visit rahajewelry.com and follow along on Instagram at @rahajewelry.co.
