The Nonfiction Writing Program at Brown University is pleased to welcome Alissa Quart as part of the 2018-2019 Nonfiction!@Brown Lecture Series. Quart's talk is entitled, "Squeezed: Why You Can't Afford America."

ALISSA QUART (Brown ’94), journalist, editor, poet, and acclaimed author of Squeezed: Why Our Families Can’t Afford America (2018), discusses economic inequality and the future of journalism. She is also the author of the books Branded and Monetized. Quart is a regular contributor to The New York Times, writes a column for The Guardian called “Outclassed,” and is Executive Editor of the Economic Hardship Reporting Project, a nonprofit she co-founded with writer Barbara Ehrenreich. In 2018, Quart won an Emmy for executive producing the documentary film “Jackson.” Quart currently teaches an advanced seminar, “Social Justice Reporting in the Digital Age,” in Brown University’s Nonfiction Writing Program.
