There’s a buzz around Ocean State oysters, and they’ve become such a sensation that the Bowen’s Wharf Company has brought farmers and restaurants together to form the Rhode Island Oyster Trail.
The trail connects oyster fans directly with the farms where the oysters are raised by allowing them to take a self-guided tour. After a day of going farm to farm, stop by one of the many restaurants that are part of the trail, which are dedicated to serving at least one RI-raised oyster year-round. Some of the choice stops are: Newport’s Midtown Oyster Bar for their assortment of Venus, Walrus & Carpenter, East Beach Blondes and Quonset oysters; Coast Guard House in Narragansett for Walrus & Carpenter and Salt Pond oysters; Greenwich Bay Oyster Bar in East Greenwich for Beavertails, Hope Islands and Umami; and McCormick & Schmick’s in Providence, for Matunuck oysters. It’s a whole new level of oyster appreciation.
