How One Local Maker Turned Pumpkins into Porch Art

If fall had a fairy godmother, her magic wand would probably be a pumpkin stem. For Kerri Giroux, that image feels just about right. As the owner of Seasonal Porch Designs RI, she turns Rhode Island porches into cozy autumn dreamscapes bursting with color, texture, and natural beauty. Her signature “Pumpkinscapes” are artful, elegant arrangements built from real pumpkins and greenery.

The idea took root from a Southern trend that caught Giroux’s eye. “We were inspired by the porch design concierge services that are very large in the South,” she said. “Both my husband and I have birthdays very close to Halloween, so we have always had a love for pumpkins and the fall season.” That shared love of autumn, combined with an overflowing pile of gourds, inspired their first Pumpkinscape and planted the seed for a thriving business.

Giroux sees porches as the perfect blank canvas. “Everyone’s is different and people love showing off what their home and their front steps look like during each holiday season,” she explained. “As a result of everyone having a different type of porch, no Pumpkinscape is the same.”

Each design begins with a home visit to assess layout, steps, and space. “We work with a variety of pumpkins that range in different colors and sizes,” she said. “We start with the larger pumpkins and work our way down to the smaller ones, filling in every possible space we can.” The result is an arrangement that feels lush, organic, and completely unique to each home.

One of Giroux’s favorite projects was for her daughter’s school. “It was memorable because our daughter was able to help us create the display, and we were able to spread a little bit of pumpkin joy to the children at the school,” she said.

This year, Giroux is especially drawn to pastel-hued pumpkins in soft greens, pinks, and blues.
