UFC 271: Adesanya vs. Whittaker 2 is the fight promotion's next pay-per-view event and it has some intriguing fights lined up for the fans. A highly anticipated rematch, with a championship on the line, is part of a stacked car in Houston on Saturday night, as the Ultimate Fighting Championship puts on what is expected to be another exciting show.
The main event will be the second fight over the Middleweight Championship between the champion, “The Last Stylebender” Israel Adesanya, taking on Robert “The Reaper” Whittaker.
These two met for the first time for the undisputed title in front of 57,000 people in Australia at UFC 243, when Adesanya knocked out Whittaker in the second round.
Adesanya comes into the fight with a 21-1 career record, and is undefeated in the Middleweight division. 15 of his wins have come by knockout, and is coming off a victory over Marvin Vettori at UFC 263. This will be the former kickboxing champion’s fourth title defense.
Since losing to Adesanya, Whittaker is on a three-fight win streak, and is 23-5 in his MMA career. The first-ever Australian champion is looking to avenge the loss, after picking up big wins on his road back to the championship picture.
The co-main event features two fighters who are looking to hopefully be the next challenger for the Middleweight belt. Jared “The Killa Gorilla” Cannonier takes on Derek Brunson. Cannioner in the no. 3-ranked fighter in the division, with nine of his wins coming by knockout.
Brunson comes into Saturday with a 23-7 career record, with almost half of his victories coming by knockout, and is on a five-fight win streak.

Israel Adesanya vs Robert Whittaker to headline UFC 271
In the night's main event, Israel Adesanya will put his middleweight title on the line against former rival Robert Whittaker.
Whittaker will enter the rematch at UFC 271 looking to reclaim the middleweight title he lost to 'The Last Stylebender' more than two years ago at UFC 243. 'The Reaper' is running high entering the bout, having scored a trio of hard-fought unanimous decision wins through 2020-2021 over some of the top contenders in the division, including Darren Till, Jared Cannonier and Kelvin Gastelum.
Whittaker also appears to be a more well-rounded fighter than he was in his previous meeting with Adesanya.
Meanwhile, the champion has also shown steady improvements in his own game. Adesanya has also displayed improvements in his takedown defense in his recent bout against Marvin Vettori after failing against Jan Blachowicz at UFC 259.
Many believe that Whittaker’s best chance at reclaiming the middleweight crown will be to utilize his grappling against the champion, but he could be in for a rough ride.

Nearly three years after their first matchup, UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya and former champion Robert Whittaker will go to battle once again in the UFC 271 main event.
Adesanya has looked dominant since earning the title over Whittaker at UFC 243. He most recently defended his title against Marvin Vettori at UFC 263 in a unanimous decision victory, preceded by a lopsided win over Paulo Costa.
In between middleweight title defenses, Adesanya’s pursuit of a second belt fell short as he lost to Jan Blachowicz at UFC 259.
Whittaker has won three straight on his path back to the title shot. He most recently put on back-to-back dominant wins over Kelvin Gastelum and Jared Cannonier.
Former UFC heavyweight title challenger Derrick Lewis will face Tai Tuivasa in the co-main event, Middleweight contenders Jared Cannonier and Derek Brunson also go to battle for a potential title shot.
