Labor Day signals the unofficial end of the season, so why not live it up this weekend? Send off summer in style with festivals, feasts, and forays. Along with plenty of enticing performances and live music, Rhody organizations celebrate the weekend with educational programming, too.

Emmylou Harris, Old Crow Medicine Show, and Drive-By Truckers are just a few of the artists lined up for this year’s Rhythm & Roots, presenting three stages of a range of styles, from American to Zydeco, plus camping, food, and crafts. Tickets online, Friday-Sunday, Charlestown

Slater Mill hosts family-friendly events and programming for Labor Day Weekend. Free tours, talks, and activities illuminate local history, and the River Bend East Songwriters Festival kicks off the weekend Friday with free music. Schedule online, Pawtucket

Hayrides, music, and scrumptious bites are part of the fun at Steere Orchard’s Peachfest. Celebrate this sweet harvest at a Rhody farm that’s been growing apples and peaches since the 1930s, and don’t forget to visit the farm store. Sunday-Monday, Greenville

THURSDAY, August 29

The Indigenous family-run Ashawaug Farm hosts a gARTen session, inviting creatives of all ages to be inspired by the land. Bring your own supplies to paint, write poetry, take photos, or engage in whatever medium moves you. 4:30-6:30pm, Ashaway

It’s the final Music at Sunset: Concert Series event at Blithewold, presenting The Oh Nos! Bring your own snacks, folding chairs, and picnic blanket to spread out on the lawn for an evening of music and stunning views of the bay. Tickets online, Bristol

FRIDAY, August 30

Rejects Beer Co.’s Punky Reggae Party kicks off the long weekend with beach vibes, great brews, and tunes from The Agents, Brunt of It, Nick and the Adversaries, and more. It’ll be a groovy time. 7:30-11:30pm, Middletown

SATURDAY, August 31

Head to Festival Pier for the RI Chinese Dragon Boat Races & Taiwan Day Festival to catch the thrilling races, as well as captivating cultural performances, authentic cuisine, and a dumpling-eating contest along the river. 8:45am-4pm, Pawtucket

From poetry and comics to activist pamphlets, the Queer/Trans Zine Fest at The Steel Yard has literature for all tastes, all made by queer, trans, and gender non-conforming artists. Art, apparel, herbal medicine, and textiles will also be on display. 11am-5pm, Providence

As part of RI Land Trust Days, Coventry Land Trust and the RI Mycological Society host a Fungal Foray at Stella Hall Conservation Area, inviting enthusiasts and fungi-curious participants to find and learn how to ID species. Register online, Coventry

Special programs and activities at the Museum of Work & Culture let guests tap into the meaning behind the long-weekend holiday at Labor Day Open House. A special new exhibit opens, and stick around for a hot dog lunch! 10am-4pm, Woonsocket
