Providence is about to experience a thrilling mix of spooky and spectacular as the 24th Annual Flickers’ Vortex Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and Horror Film Festival takes place. Running from October 2-6, the festival will offer a diverse lineup of international genre films designed to entertain and amaze. The schedule includes 55 films from 12 countries, including six world premieres and nine North American premieres.

The festival begins with a special retrospective screening on September 29, held in partnership with Motif Magazine. This pre-fest event at Buttonwoods Brewery will feature an eclectic selection of award-winning short films from past Vortex festivals, spanning sci-fi, fantasy, horror, and horror-comedy, setting the tone for the week ahead.

This year’s screenings will take place at venues like Providence Place’s Showcase Cinemas, the Avon Cinema, and The Vets Memorial Auditorium’s Cinematheque, offering an ideal atmosphere for these hair-raising films. For the grand finale, the festival will close with a 40th anniversary screening of Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter. Find a full schedule and more information online
